Mission Statement

We have dedicated one year to travel throughout the US, living and working alongside individuals and communities who uniquely pursue the thread of sustainable agriculture in their lifework.

Vision Statement

By rooting ourselves in the daily lives of individuals and communities, we hope to better understand our own role in and approach to the sustainable future of the places we will one day call home.

Lindsay, Lauren, and Jaimie all met at Appalachian State University and bonded over similar passions for caring for and learning to live in a rooted relationship with the land. As the conversations about what we were doing after graduation became more and more necessary, we decided to take initiative toward pursuing our passions. So, we came up with the idea to travel and work on different farms around the country in hopes of learning from all different kinds of people. We contacted friends who provided connections and recommendations of farms to visit and started from there. As we have planned this trip that started as a way to gather knowledge about farming, we have begun to transform our hopes and expectations. We do hope to learn the practical aspects of farming (when to plant, what to plant where, the hard work, etc.), but we also hope to learn about how the farms are involved in their communities, in education, in the local food movement, and how they are contributing to the betterment of their hometowns. We also have personal hopes for growth and discernment of our role in this kind of work, a search for the meaning of “home”, and a personal knowledge of what it truly means to be sustained by the land. Finally, we hope to document and share all of this with you, our friends and supporters! This is a big year for us, and we can’t do it without your help. Our itinerary is as follows:

September-December: Koinonia Farm, Americus, GA

January-March: Green Hill Farm, Fulton County, KY

April: McGirt Family Farm, Wilmington, NC

May 4-9: Rabbit Moon Farms, Fletcher, NC

May 9-May 30: Waxwing Farm, Valle Crucis, NC

June 1-June 28: Edible Forrest Urban Farm, Norristown, PA

June 28-July 10: Bread and Puppets Theatre, Vermont

July 10-August 10: Blue-Zee Farm, Maine

We are so thankful for all of the support we have received and continue to receive! This trip is such a privilege and fantastic experience and we can’t do it without you. 1. Hello Lindsey and Lauren, … and ‘new-to-me’ Jaimie, … I wish you ALL … WELL … on this ‘grand adventure’ .. and will look forward to ‘hearing about’ your ‘learnings’ and travels. Fondly, Kay … in the metropolis of Todd, N.C.

  2. Hi Lindsey and Lauren, I just checked out this bloodspot – very nice. I’m sure you are learning a lot and I hope you come back and share it with us someday. What are you doing garden-wise now in the winter? Here, we’re still working to develop the Blackburn garden.

    1. Hey Martha! Thanks so much for reading our blog! We’re mostly working with animals now–goats, horses, and chickens–and helping to plan the spring garden. I hope the Blackburn garden is coming along and all is well in Todd!
